Shindigs is a lo-fi dream pop band based in San Diego, with roots that trace back to frontman Beejay Buduan’s time living and teaching in Korea, after graduating from SDSU in 2012. Following his return to San Diego in 2017, Shindigs filled out their lineup with the additions of Grant Gilbert on Bass (Splavender, Slay Dean), Zach O’Reilly on Keys, and Anthony Bautista on Drums. 2018 proved to be a monumental year for Shindigs: they capitalized on local momentum, while maintaining global recognition, receiving a co-sign from K-pop artist Hwasa from Mamamoo, who credited Shindigs with filling an emptiness she experienced when she felt like she was out of songs to hear on the road. The year culminated in the band capturing the attention of Cleopatra Records, who released Shindigs’ 2018 full-length album, “C h ill a nd,” memorialized with a limited release on vinyl.
Hailing from Bakersfield, California, Hate Drugs was founded in 2014 by frontman David Caploe, who worked with his brother Josiah to release their first EP, “Rough Daze” that summer. Later that year, the project turned into a full-fledged band with the additions of Bass player John Irwin IV, Drummer Adrian Diaz, and Guitarist Norman Lee Skidmore. With two full-length albums under their belt, the band has garnered critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase over the last five years, consistently being featured at SXSW, and regularly playing to sold out crowds across the west coast. A band that refuses to be put in a box, Hate Drugs cites a wide range of influences that gives them the freedom to write music that allows them to “move seamlessly through so many sounds,” which is truly evident throughout their young discography. Unafraid to incorporate a variety of recording techniques, effects, and playing styles, Hate Drugs has developed a signature sound that propels their cinematic song structures with an uninhibited energy, while staying true to a mindset of musical intention that comes alive in how each member fills sonic space.
The Licks are a band from Hesperia, CA, that began as a project between vocalist and guitar player Chad Zappia and former drummer Thomas Bateman. Soon after, bassist Jimmy Rogers and guitarist Paul Haston, who both played in a band called "The Overstreets" with Chad, joined the band along with multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Chandler James. Citing a wide range of influences like Stevie Wonder, Vulfpeck, and The 1975, the band has developed a dynamic, lush sound, led by complementary dueling vocals, thoughtful playing across several guitars and keyboards, all held together with a tight, funky rhythm section. The Licks exude talent and work ethic, which audiences have taken quick notice of since they came together in 2017. The band's reach has extended far and beyond their hometown in the High Desert, evidenced by millions of streams on YouTube and Spotify, and shows all across California, supporting bands like The Wrecks, The Drums, and Bay Faction. As for the future, The Licks recently added saxophonist Rylan Scott to their lineup, and beyond Escorted Trips 2019, they'll be preparing to play Goldenvoice's Tropicalia in November!
Ignant Benches is a band from Chula Vista, California. Comprised of Vocalist/Guitarist Anson Kelley, his cousin Andres Tistoj on Lead Guitar, Mauro Rocha on Drums, and Ruben Gutierrez on Bass, the band has developed a loyal following, attributing their success to the raw energy that both their recorded material and live shows are known for. The talented group has been playing since they were in middle school, and for the uninitiated, it’s worth noting that this was just a few years ago, back in 2015! Since then, they’ve made waves locally, consistently being featured on 91x, playing shows all over the county, and supporting international acts like Foster the People and Louis XIV. 2019 has already been a busy year for the band - fresh off the release of their debut album, Wishful Thinking (At Its Best), Ignant Benches embarked on a west coast tour that kicked off at home, taking them as far north as Vancouver, and everywhere in between.
